LSEMUN XVIII

Our previous iteration was unprecedented in several ways. We had seven incredible crisis committees: ranging from one to three cabinets, spanning across three continents, and delving into everything from town-hall scale debate to international great power politics. The conference also introduced some of the highest-calibre socials on the UK's circuit, including a cocktail reception with live music in the Shaw Library and a boat party on the Thames. Finally, our Diplomatic Panel and ceremonies counted with illustrious speakers, including Britain's first black cabinet Minister, Lord Boateng, and Mr. Ng Teck Hean, the High Commissioner of Singapore.

GUEST SPEAKERS

COCKTAIL RECEPTION

The Shaw Library, one of LSE's most historic venues, was the setting for our cocktail reception. Guests were treated to live music, appetizers and drinks after their committee sessions.

BOAT PARTY

The boat party we organized was a hit! Attendees including delegates, chairs, and staff relished the stunning nighttime vistas of London, along with pizza, drinks, and other delights. Join us at the Thames in future iterations!

COMMITTEES

UK HOUSE OF COMMONS

Set in 2040 the UK Parliament, with all its specialist procedures and heckling, delegates had to overcome new threats of cyber-terrorism while also battling each other in an electoral race. Beginning with an attack on the national grid to drone attacks on infrastructure delegates had to deal with escalating issues.

SALEM WITCH TRIALS

This committee took delegates to the local level of government within Massachusetts, a rarity in crisis, and focused on the infamous Salem Witch Trials in 1692 in the backdrop of the disruption of the Massachusetts Bay Colony governorship. As such, delegates represented the Salem Town Hall representatives, weeding out the witches to govern their community.

ROMAN SENATE

This committee represented a LSEMUN and UK first in the form of the Roman Senate, an economic crisis committee. The Senate, set in 33 AD, required collective and individual action from delegates to bring a resolution to a financial crisis caused by the greed of Senators.
